Kerala, a wealthy and most educated state in southwestern India- This week, the death of a mother elephant exploded in anger.  A pregnant mother elephant was found wandering and searching for food on the border between the forest and the human village at the end of May. She was extremely hungry and weak. She soon fell to the ground and died in a local stream.  Surprisingly, the elephant's jaw and tongue have obvious holes and wounds, which should be caused by humans "deliberately feeding fruits stuffed with firecrackers" and the innocent mother elephat believed on the human and ate the fruits. In the hungry state, the mother elephant with her baby in the belly died of injuries in the local stream.

The extremely exaggerated tragedy of elephant massacre ignited the grief and anger of Indians.  In the past 48 hours, various related keywords such as "#KeralaElephantMurder","#RIPElephant"have successively rushed to the Twitter global hot search rankings, and the postponement has also attracted international attention.  And being praised as the state of Indian civilization, Kerala with a literacy rate of more than 90% has also been ironically condemned as "human nature and civilization are dead."  In India, which is still in a state of lockdown, wild animals are dying because of hunger. What really happened to the Elephant?

According to the preliminary confirmation by the authorities, the death of the elephant is directly related to the "fruit firecracker". This female elephant was deliberately fed by humans with fruit filled with firecrackers during the process of searching for food and water.  When chewing and swallowing, the firecracker detonated in the mouth, directly hurting the mouth and tongue, making the already hungry elephant more difficult to chew and eat with the injured mouth, so he died of starvation and severe pain.

The brutal elephant murder in Kerala, occurred nearby the Silent Valley National Park in the state.  Near the border of the forest between the national park and the human settlement, a mother elephant was found by local villagers to be hungry and wandering around for food.

Government and Other officials' reaction to the situation

The Wildlife Conservation Officer of Silent Valley National Park said that although the elephant was found to be too weak for many days and had little hope of recovery, the team finally decided to take her to a safe place for further inspection.  Too late, the elephant died on the Veliyar River.  The autopsy of the expert team also found that the dead elephant had been pregnant for one month, and many colleagues present could not help crying for the tragedy of one dead and two lives.

"Dear sister, I'm sorry," said a Forest Bureau official who witnessed the elephant fall and died at the scene. The elephant "walked back and forth because it was hungry but the wound was painful and difficult to eat. But it was more than worrying about myself.  She must be more anxious about the baby elephant in her belly, and she will also be starved to death." And the elephant's continuous search for water and walking into the river is also presumed to relieve the severe wounds of the wounds in the mouth.

"We received a local report on May 23 that an elephant was wandering in the forest outside the national park, and we only noticed her. But when we sent staff to understand the situation, we found that her jaw had obvious wounds.  The next 24 hours, the elephant has been trying to find water. "Until then, she didn’t eat any solid food, only drink water. Because her condition was already very weak, we asked the vet to help. According to the video from the scene, the dead elephant floated in the water of the Veliyar River, and the shore was crowded with local villagers watching.  It is suspected that the other two domestic elephants dispatched by the authorities were helpless in the river. One of them tried to use its elephant trunk to lightly touch the elephant corpse, which seemed to want to wake up and confirm the same kind.

Some officials said on the 3rd that the current case has been involved in investigating the facts of the crime.  Although the exact cause of death, details of the murder, criminal motives and purpose of the elephant are still to be confirmed, if it is confirmed that it is deliberately fed by humans with fruits stuffed with explosives, and the attempt to kill the elephant is contrary to the Wildlife Protection Law (  Wild Life Protection Act), can be fined or imprisoned.

Kerala officials said that the body of this battered elephant will be treated by cremation.  Many Indian netizens resented and mourned humanity on the social network, and also mourned, hoping that this mother elephant who once trusted human feeding and died, as well as the baby elephant in her belly, would go to a paradise that will no longer be harmed by disappointment.

Is Kerala really a civilized state? I doubt it! Kerala, where the incident occurred, retains a lot of historical and cultural heritage, is rich in products, and the average income of residents is higher than 75% of the country, and its literacy rate exceeds 93%, has long been regarded as the humanist state of India.

Similar incidents 

In countries with wild elephants such as India, Indonesia, and Thailand, with the rapid development of urbanization and industrialization, human-elephant conflicts are becoming more frequent and intense.  In the case of natural habitats being developed and constricted, wild elephants are wandering around the boundary between humans and nature in order to seek living space and resources, and even conflict with humans.  This is one of the main reasons why devices like "fruit firecrackers" will be developed locally.

My opinion 

This incident is really a shame on humanity. How cruel we humans are to kill an innocent pregnant elephant with the baby inside her belly! And then we say we are Hindus! What is the use of religion if we can't adopt humanity. Humanity is the most important thing in our life rather than Religion. I personally am a Hindu but don't do anything to follow Hinduism because all those rituals and worships are useless if you can't be a Human.
