As we all know, India is a whole world of customs, rituals, gods, goddesses, etc. At the same time, India has also a whole lot of superstions we still follow today. A very new invented superstition in India during the corona pandemic is from Bihar. The "Corona mai" Do you know corona mai? Let's know what is it and how did it start.
How did it start ?
Fear and superstition of the epidemic have made the Corona pandemic "mai"(mother). This superstition is spreading rapidly in many districts of Bihar. Due to the full moon on Friday, women worshiped throughout the day on the banks of the Ganga Ghats, river and pond. The surprise is that women of all classes and religions are joining it.
On Friday, the administration and health department kept him from worshiping. Even then, rumors of Corona worship continued to spread rapidly on social media. Women have started worshiping 'Corona Mai' in the villages of North Bihar including Patna, Buxar, Gaya, Nawada, Nalanda and districts of Champaran and Koshi.
She (Corona Mai) is being worshiping by digging seven pits and putting jaggery syrup in it along with cloves, cardamom, flowers and seven laddus to get rid of this pandemic. People in nearby areas are disturbed by explaining to the women who have been coming to worship 'Corona Mai' in the fields in front of the Kali temple located by the bypass of Buxar. Local people say that 60 women worshiping Corona Mai here in three days.
Women's argument
Even after telling them not to do so, women are superstitiously worshipping. They argue that the pandemic will run away by the worship. In Buxar itself, the women who came to bathe at the Ganges Ghat in Nath Baba Ghat, Singrahia Talab, Shani Chara Baba Temple, etc., were also engaged in worshiping by digging a pit.
Ramavati Devi and Tetri Devi said that it is a new form of Goddess. She is angry. Her anger will be pacified only by worship. To calm them, the barren land is being dug and ladoos, cloves, flowers and sandalwood are being offered. In this village, a dozen women worshiped Corona Mai on Friday.
Spread of the ritual
This tradition is rapidly spreading from the rural areas of Bihar to the cities where the Bihari people have settled. In my neighborhood there lives a family from Bihar. The eldest women of the family ordered her son the equipments for the worship as she got a phone call from the village to do so. Even my mother said that "It's ok! They aren't doing any crime."
Logic
There is absolutely no logic behind the ritual. It is useless. Just a waste of time and money. This is just because of illiteracy and unawareness among the people.
Conclusion
This is really a shameful thing for India During the Coronavirus pandemic, where the whole world is frightened and scientists and researches a continuously giving their best to discover a vaccine for this virus But in the rural area of India people have related this pandemic to God as we always do. This makes me think that millions of our useless and illogical rituals and customes came of stupidiy as we can see it in the present times. And people still follow them blindly.
I know people will hate me after this but that's my opinion and I have the right to express it.
Government should take serious steps to ban the worship as well as other useless rituals because they will lead to a huge spread of the virus among the people.
